Fluvanna’s Education History

Visit the 2nd Floor

I wrote earlier in the month about visiting the Old Stone Jail in Palmyra.  It’s time for a return visit.  The Fluvanna Historical Society is featuring all the educational institutions in Fluvanna County as far back as 1810. The new exhibit is located on the second floor of the jail and is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays through September from 1-4 PM and Sundays 2-5 PM. Don’t miss this taste of Fluvanna’s past.  For more information, including information on the walking tour of Historic Palmyra  go to www.fluvannahistory.org

The Butterfly bushes are in full bloom and attracting large numbers of butterflies. I decided to take a few pictures of the willing flyers. The results can be viewed below. Hope you enjoy.

Fresh Produce, Anyone?

Well if you missed Tuesday’s Farmer’s Market at Pleasant Grove in Palmyra, you missed a great selection of local produce and craft items. There was lots of sweet corn, tomatoes, green beens, summer squash, cantaloupe, peas, cucumbers, beets, peppers, potatoes, blueberries and even okra.  It was plenty hot, close to 100 deg, but that didn’t stop most vendors from selling a large variety.  Besides fresh produce, there was also a variety of home canned goods, great tasting baked goods,  fresh farm eggs and craft items.

The farmers market is open every Tuesday from 2-6 PM till the end of October. This coming Tuesday, July 13th, the market will be at the Dog Park on Rt 53, near Rt 15. Don’t miss a great opportunity to support your local farmers and merchants and take home some fresh fruits and vegetables to your friends and family.

What Can Color Do For Your Home

The colors you use in your home can make a real difference when it’s time to sell. If your home is still the original primer color or needs a lift, watch this video for some excellent ideas.

Tax Credit Closing Date Extended

If you haven’t heard yet, Congress finally approved the extension for the first time home buyer credit closing date to September 30. Someone just called me and asked if they could still get the credit if they bought a house tomorrow and closed by 30 September. Sorry Bill, this only applies if you had a radified contract on a house prior to the April 30, 2010 dealline. (However, service members who were on official extended duty outside of the United States for at least 90 days between Jan.1, 2009 and May 1, 2010, may qualify for a one-year extension.)
